Carter Cofflin Warns Minneapolis About Mayoral Candidate Omar Fate

Carter Cofflin, a Minnesota native and former linebacker for the New York Giants, has issued a stern warning to Minneapolis regarding the potential election of Omar Fate as mayor.

On Saturday, Fate declared that he has the support of the Democrat Farmers and Labour Party (DFL) in his run against the sitting mayor, Jacob Frey.

Originally from Eden Prairie, Cofflin, who played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college, expressed his concerns about Fate’s policies via social media, which he believes could lead to significant challenges for the city.

“First, we should attack policies, not people. People need to grow,” Cofflin commented on X. He further stressed that in urban areas facing severe destruction and racial tensions, certain policies could push cities toward further decline, suggesting that Minneapolis needs to be rebuilt.

Omar Fate has drawn parallels to Zoran Mamdani, a democratic socialist leader from New York City. At only 35 years old, and the son of Somali immigrants, Fate made history in 2020 as the first Somali-American elected to the Minnesota Senate. His campaign promises include raising the city’s minimum wage, increasing affordable housing options, and addressing “police violence.”

Fate expressed gratitude towards the DFL for their endorsement, noting how honored he felt to be a candidate for mayor.
