Schaeffler Captures First Open Championship Title
Scotty Schaeffler’s performance at the Open Championship was nothing short of impressive. He wrapped up the final round with a score of 68, adding a significant achievement to his career.
This victory marked Schaeffler’s first win at the Open Championship. Previously, his best finish was a tie for seventh at the Royal Toon Golf Club in Scotland during a major last year.
This time around, he showcased his skills on the fairways of Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, navigating the course with apparent ease.
After starting with a solid 68 in the first round, he surged to the top with an exceptional 64 in the second round, which featured eight birdies. He maintained a strong position with a 67 in the third round, keeping him in contention for the title.
On Sunday, his gameplay was characterized by consistency. Schaeffler concluded with just one double bogey, complemented by five birdies, ensuring that no one was able to close the gap on him.
In 2025, Schaeffler has already secured four victories, including wins at the Byron Nelson in May and the PGA Championship, along with a win over Ben Griffin in June.
Harris English finished second with a score of 13-under par, carding a 66 in the final round. This marked the best major finish of his career, surpassing his previous best of tied for 15th in 2013.
Meanwhile, Chris Gottrup also had a noteworthy tournament, finishing third at 12-under par after scoring 66 in his last round.
Even though Bryson Dechambeau struggled at first, he managed to climb into the top 10 by the end of the round. After shooting 78 in the opening round, he recovered with a 65, followed by rounds of 68 and 64.
The Open Championship concludes the major events for the season. Both the PGA Tour and Liv Golf stars will now shift their focus towards the Ryder Cup scheduled for the end of September.
