Jon Stewart Delivers Wild Rant Filled with F-Bombs About the Colbert Cancellation

Stewart’s Take on Colbert’s Cancellation

On Monday night, Comedy Central host John Stewart gave a fiery six-minute speech following CBS’s announcement that it will be ending “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” in May 2026. The network cited financial concerns as the reason for the cancellation.

Stewart, on “The Daily Show,” suggested that the decision was driven by “fear and pre-attention,” implying it was more about controlling the narrative than addressing profitability. He articulated a sense of sympathy for the network’s apprehension but made it clear that it reflects a larger issue of censorship and fear in the industry. “This situation reveals the lengths to which you would go to seek control over a substantial amount of revenue,” he remarked.

Stewart didn’t hold back his thoughts on the topic. He suggested that networks attempting to be safe and palatable ultimately diminish their value. “It’s quite a challenge to stay on the right side of the so-called powerful,” he quipped, reflecting on the complexities of navigating these waters.

He then shifted gears to discuss former President Donald Trump, specifically bringing up Trump’s lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News. “Trump is suing Murdoch! The man who arguably has played a key role in Trump’s rise!” Stewart exclaimed, igniting laughter and applause from the audience. He continued, suggesting that even with constant coverage, it was never enough for Trump.

Stewart emphasized a disconnect within major American institutions, asserting that the real reason for the show’s cancellation likely has more to do with a pervasive fear rather than financial health or Trump’s call logs.

The segment rounded off with Stewart and a choir singing a song that criticized the agency for brokering a deal with Trump, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
