Pelosi criticizes Johnson for preventing summer voting on Epstein documents

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) expressed her disapproval of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for delaying a House vote on revealing details about the dishonest financier and sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. This postponement took place early on Tuesday, contributing to the House closing earlier than planned.

Pelosi stated, “For years, many of the Epstein victims—children at the time of their abuse—have waited in silence and suffering for justice. They deserve answers, dignity, and action from our government.”

She continued, saying, “It’s particularly shameful that Johnson opted to close the House for summer recess to sidestep the vote on this resolution.”

Pelosi emphasized that choosing to block transparency in this manner is not merely neglectful. “It profoundly shames the victims who have endured this trauma for decades,” she added. “The American people need to know who was involved with Epstein, and those individuals must be held accountable, regardless of their influence.”

On Tuesday morning, the House GOP Whip’s office announced that the House would be taking an August break earlier than originally scheduled. The final vote for the week is now set for 3:30 PM local time on Wednesday, effectively canceling the vote that was supposed to take place on Thursday.

This change comes as Democrats have sought to push votes aimed at releasing additional information regarding Epstein. They have also tweaked their plans for this week’s votes while working with the House Rules Committee.

Johnson addressed the controversy by stating, “What we refuse is to enter into another one of the Democrats’ political games. This is a serious matter. We cannot allow this to become political weaponry. The Rules Committee has turned into a platform for their maneuvering.”

He went on to suggest that the same parties critiquing them on transparency have engaged in one of history’s most audacious political cover-ups, referencing President Biden’s management of public perceptions regarding aging.
