President Donald Trump has disclosed that Paramount agreed to pay $16 million to settle his lawsuit against CBS over an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned he is also looking to receive an additional $20 million from the “new owner” through advertising or similar programming. He framed this as yet another triumph against the so-called fake news media.
“Breaking the news! We’ve just scored a major victory in the historic lawsuit against CBS and Paramount, 60 Minutes,” Trump wrote in his post. “Just like ABC and George Stephanopoulos, CBS and its owners know they misled the American people and were eager to settle.”
He elaborated, saying, “Paramount/CBS/60 Minutes has now paid a $16 million settlement, and we anticipate another $20 million from new owners, bringing the total to over $36 million in advertising or similar programs.”
“This marks another victory over fake news media, and we will continue to expose their widespread fraud and deception,” he added. Trump went on to mention various media outlets, asserting their time of deceiving Americans is finished. “Make America great again!”
Earlier reports indicated that Paramount had agreed to the $16 million settlement, which also covers Trump’s legal fees, according to the company.
Paramount clarified that the settlement entails releasing a transcript of “60 Minutes” interviews with eligible U.S. presidential candidates post-airing, although it will be subject to legal or national security review. However, an apology was not part of the agreement, as noted by the New York Times.
This settlement follows another agreement where ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos settled a defamation lawsuit with Trump, paying him $15 million along with legal fees and offering a public apology. That settlement emerged after Trump sued over defamation linked to his discussion surrounding Jean Carroll.
Recently, Trump has also filed lawsuits against Rupert Murdoch and others associated with News Corporation, alleging inappropriate conduct following his conviction related to Jeffrey Epstein’s actions on his 50th birthday.
