Mike Vrabel reprimands reporter for asking the same question over and over

Mike Vrabel isn’t Bill Belichick, but he sure had a moment reminiscent of him recently. During a press conference, the head coach of the New England Patriots expressed frustration with a reporter’s question, which, interestingly enough, he had just answered for another journalist moments before.

The question came from Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, who wanted to know how the team arrived at training camp on its first day. Vrabel’s response was quick and a bit sharp. He remarked, “I don’t know if you were in a coma when I answered Tom’s question, but I spent five minutes on that.”

Some might say Vrabel didn’t need to be so harsh with Volin, considering the latter’s apparent lack of awareness about the previous answer. Volin responded back, expressing that it was unprofessional and a bit careless—like a “five-yard penalty” for not being focused.

Patriots reporters are somewhat accustomed to the bluntness of press interactions, especially given Belichick’s tendency for terse replies. Vrabel, while more animated, still carries the hallmarks of his former coach, emphasizing that everyone should be precise and efficient in their roles.

This season is a fresh start for the Patriots, following a tough 4-13 record last year under former head coach Jerod Mayo. Vrabel had been in the running to take over coaching duties previously, though he didn’t find a new position after being released from the Tennessee Titans last offseason. Now, after a year off, he’s back, hoping to lead the team to its first playoff appearance since 2021.

With new talents like wide receiver Stefon Diggs joining the mix—and solid players, such as quarterback Drake Maye—the narratives surrounding the Patriots are shaping up to be quite intriguing this year. Still, Vrabel seems to wish for fewer repetitive inquiries moving forward.
