Charlie Woods does not make the cut at the US Junior Amateur

Charlie Woods fell short of making the cut at the US Junior Amateur Championship, even though he improved his score during the second round.

At Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on Tuesday, the 16-year-old finished with a score of 74 (3 over par), which was a notable seven strokes better than his first round performance the previous day.

Despite this improvement, Woods, the son of golf icon Tiger Woods, ended up missing the cut line that was set to be around two over par for the tournament after two days of play.

The initial two rounds follow stroke play rules, with a transition to match play after the cut.

Woods had a balanced front nine but stumbled at the end, registering a bogey on the 17th and a double bogey on the 18th hole.

Tiger Woods, who himself triumphed in the US Junior Amateur during the early ’90s, was present in Texas to support his son during the tournament.

Previous winners of this tournament also include Jordan Spieth and Scotty Scheffler, adding a bit of historical weight to the competition.

This marks the second consecutive US Junior Amateur where Woods hasn’t progressed to match play, following his earlier rounds of 82 and 80 at Oakland Hills in 2024.

Charlie qualified for this championship after competing through playoffs in Coral Springs, Florida last month.

In a competitive field, he was among four children of current or former PGA Tour players who participated this week, including Jackson Byrd, Trevor Gutschewski, and Cameron Kuchar.
