Indiana Hoosiers Enter Football Playoffs for the First Time

The Indiana Hoosiers concluded the previous season with an impressive record of 11-2, marking their first-ever appearance in the college football playoffs. Now, they aim to capitalize on that achievement as they look toward the 2025 season.

This year, the Hoosiers will kick off their season against Old Dominion, Kennesaw, and Indiana, with their first major game set against Illinois on September 20. Their schedule has become a hot topic during the Big Ten Media Day held recently.

Head coach Curt Cignetti discussed the decision to cancel a Home and Home Series with the Virginia Cavaliers, and he didn’t hold back on critiquing the SEC in the process. “This scheduling philosophy began before my time here, but I agreed to it upon my hiring,” he explained. He emphasized the benefits, noting, “We gain an extra home game and a total of nine conference matchups.”

Cignetti made comparisons in college football, asserting that the Big Ten is focused on having the strongest teams in the playoffs. “The best teams should receive automatic qualifiers. But it’s important to standardize schedules to set objective criteria for playoff eligibility,” he suggested.

As the season approaches, the Hoosiers are set to move forward with Fernando Mendoza as their center, and Omar Cooper Jr., who boasts an impressive average of 21.2 yards per reception, is expected to return to the field.
