Dion Sanders Visits Tampa Bay Buccaneers Training Camp
On Wednesday, Dion Sanders, the coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, made an appearance at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp. This was the first day of their camp, and the Buccaneers shared a video on social media showing him chatting and having a good time with Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles on the field.
While managing his responsibilities at Colorado—where there’s been some unspecified health concerns this offseason—Sanders shared moments on Instagram, including a photo with Shilo and another featuring his eldest son, Dion Jr., both in Tampa.
In a post captioning one of the pictures, Sanders expressed, “I had to visit Tampa and see it,” reflecting perhaps a typical fatherly instinct.
During a press conference, Bowles noted that Sanders’ visit to a closed practice was just a casual day for him. “It’s normal,” he said, emphasizing the fatherly relationship, particularly since their sons both play college football.
Just last week, Sanders mentioned his efforts to visit Shilo and his other son, Chedur, a rookie quarterback with the Browns, before returning to Boulder amidst his ongoing health challenges.
Earlier this month, at the Big 12 Media Day, Sanders had opted not to delve into the specifics of his health issues, but he did share with ESPN that he was “already back” after some time at a ranch in Texas before heading back to Boulder.
“I’m back now. I’m here for today, dealing with responsibilities,” he expressed, adding a note of enthusiasm about seeing the young players he hasn’t met yet.
Sanders also took a moment to acknowledge his former Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin, as well as Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark and Colorado’s Director Rick George, thanking them for their support during his time away.
He remarked, “I’m good looking, I live a lovely life. God really blessed me,” projecting a positive outlook despite his challenges.
Sanders has faced various health issues, having undergone multiple surgeries for blood clots in his legs, including the amputation of toes in 2021. Despite these difficulties, he achieved a 9-4 record with Colorado in his second season and signed a substantial five-year, $54 million contract extension in March.
Looking ahead, Colorado is set to kick off their preseason summer camp later this month, with their 2025 season opener scheduled against Georgia Tech in Boulder on August 29th.
