Georgia Football Commit Arrested
Chace Calicut, a 17-year-old football player committed to Georgia, was arrested in Texas this week, facing two felony charges related to a violent driving incident that reportedly involved a gun.
Calicut, who attends North Shore High School, was reportedly involved in a road rage event on July 6th, during which a shot was believed to have been fired. According to court records, Calicut and another 17-year-old passenger were driving a blue Hyundai Sonata in Harris County at the time of the alleged offense.
The incident escalated severely, as the victim attempted to evade Calicut, only to find him driving recklessly in front of them. In a statement, the victim claimed to have seen Calicut inside the vehicle during the chase.
After managing to escape, the victim reported hearing what they thought was a gunshot directed at them.
While the exact motive behind the confrontation is unclear, it was noted in court documents that the victims were familiar with Calicut and had previously received threats from him via phone over several months.
A judge ordered Calicut to be taken into custody on Wednesday, setting his bond at $75,000. Online records indicate he was still in custody as of that afternoon. Interestingly, Calicut is scheduled to turn 18 on Friday.
Last month, Calicut committed to the University of Georgia over other prominent programs, including Texas and Michigan. He expressed that the decision was influenced by the university’s culture and work ethic, describing the environment in Athens as unique and hardworking.
