House Oversight Committee issues a subpoena to Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Epstein

Ghislaine Maxwell Deposition Set Amid Epstein Investigation

The chair of the GOP-led House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has called on Ghislaine Maxwell, a long-time associate of Jeffrey Epstein, to provide testimony regarding Epstein’s alleged clients. This comes as efforts intensify to secure information about Epstein and his network of sexual abuse.

Representative James Comer announced on Wednesday that Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, is scheduled for a deposition at a federal correctional facility in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 11th.

Comer emphasized that the committee’s focus is to ensure Congress oversees the enforcement of sex trafficking laws, particularly concerning Epstein’s case. The aim is to assess legislative measures to enhance federal efforts against sex trafficking.

In a recent ruling, a federal judge dismissed Maxwell’s appeal to access a grand jury’s transcript, highlighting a lack of legal grounds for such a request.

Additionally, another federal judge rejected a request from the Trump administration to release details from Epstein’s trial. This push for transparency follows criticisms regarding the lack of insight into Epstein’s operations, including a purported “client list.” Attorney General Pamela Bondy had stated previously that this list was under her consideration, linking it directly to directives from President Trump.

Maxwell was convicted of multiple federal charges in 2021, including the trafficking of minors. Meanwhile, Epstein, facing similar charges in 2019, died in prison shortly after his arrest.
