Trump signs executive orders to fast-track data center construction, target 'woke' AI

Trump Signs Executive Orders on AI

President Trump has signed three executive orders focused on artificial intelligence, emphasizing the development of data centers, the promotion of American technology, and the initiative to “wake up” AI.

The orders aim to expedite permitting for data centers, encourage the export of U.S. technology, and support the activation of AI systems in federal contracts.

During the signing at the AI Summit, hosted by the Hill & Valley Forum and the “All-In” Podcast, Trump stated, “Under this administration, our innovation is unparalleled and our capabilities will be unparalleled.”

He continued, “With the help of many people in this room, America’s ultimate victory will never be stopped. We can’t stop as a nation. Again, we are moving forward, and we want to stay that way.”

The orders are part of a broader strategy outlined in the administration’s AI action plan released the same day, designed to enhance U.S. competitiveness in the AI field.

This framework advocates for fewer regulations on AI, the construction of AI infrastructure, and the promotion of American technology abroad.

Each of Trump’s executive orders aligns with various objectives from his AI Action Plan.

Specifically, the datacenter order calls on the Environmental Quality Council to create exemptions for certain projects that typically do not significantly impact the environment and aims to identify those eligible for expedited review.

Trump emphasized, “My administration will use all the tools at its disposal to enable the United States to build and retain the largest, most powerful, most sophisticated AI infrastructure anywhere on the planet.”

Additionally, the AI export orders propose establishing a program to export comprehensive AI packages that include U.S. chips, models, and applications.

Trump also contrasted his initiatives with former President Biden’s, noting that Biden had imposed restrictions on chip sales worldwide that were overturned by his administration amid industry resistance.

The third order, focusing on “awakening” AI, is aimed at ensuring contracts for AI models uphold “ideological neutrality,” representing a unique approach in this area.
