Kevin Sorbo Reflects on Cancel Culture and Hollywood’s Shift

Kevin Sorbo claims to be the first victim of cancel culture, pointing to his exit from Hollywood over a decade ago due to his conservative beliefs. The 66-year-old actor became well-known for his role as Hercules in the popular series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” which aired from 1995 to 1999.

In a recent interview, Sorbo expressed his views on the evolving political landscape in Hollywood. He mentioned his frustration over lost opportunities and shared his belief that the industry is gradually becoming more receptive to conservative and Christian values.

Sorbo stated, “I was canceled before it even had a name. Hollywood kicked me out for what I was posting online. They really dislike the truth, especially when it comes from Christians. For them, I’m like a pariah.” He discussed his new projects, describing his films as “hardcore and faith-based,” and noted that he, along with his wife, has launched their own studio, Sorbo Studio. Since leaving mainstream Hollywood, he has managed to film at least four movies each year.

“Honestly, I hate that it came to this, but I feel there’s a change happening. I think the political atmosphere will shift with Trump back in office. It’s inevitable that people will hate him, but I believe those who do will see improvements in their lives,” he added, suggesting that a new perspective is emerging in the industry.

“I think now that Trump is back, there’s definitely a shift. Those who detest him will find that their lives are actually getting better. Just wait and see.”

Sorbo mentioned reaching out to platforms like Netflix and Amazon with scripts that subtly incorporate faith-based messages without being overtly preachy. “I believe we are at a turning point because we’re focusing on positive themes rather than negativity,” he remarked.

He also expressed his surprise at Hollywood’s changing attitudes, stating that the financial losses, especially pertaining to recent flops, have prompted this shift. “People are tired of losing money, and it seems Americans are fed up with it too,” he said, referencing the significant losses from Disney’s recent projects.

The film “What If…”, in which Sorbo starred, will celebrate its 15th anniversary, with a special showing upcoming. The story follows a businessman who turns away from his faith only to find himself facing a life that reflects the choices he made long ago.

Sorbo believes the film offers themes that are becoming increasingly rare in Hollywood today. “It’s about hope, love, and faith—a kind of story that used to be more common. Hollywood is starting to wake up, as they’re realizing the costs of ignoring such narratives,” he stated.

In theaters, audiences can expect new bonus content that includes cast reunions and discussion panels. Tickets for the film’s anniversary screening are available through select channels.
