Pentagon Halts Participation in Think Tank Events for Review

The Pentagon has decided to pause its participation in events organized by the “America’s Last” think tank, as reported by Politico on Thursday. This suspension affects senior officials attending various forums, including the Aspen Security Forum.

The Department of Defense (DOD) mentioned concerns about “globalism” at the Aspen Security Forum as a key factor in this decision. According to an email obtained by Politico, DOD is taking time to review event participation.

Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson remarked, “The era of ‘regular business’ is over!” during a post on X. He indicated that a thorough review of all invited events for defense officials would be conducted by DOD civil servants.

Politico detailed that the new procedure for think tank participation requires scheduled speakers to provide statements and talking points to Pentagon officials. Additionally, all events must gain approval from the DOD’s Public Relations Department.

The Halifax International Security Forum, which often features the Secretary of Defense, was specifically mentioned in this context. The forum aims to promote dialogue among world democracies.

Furthermore, the Halifax Forum grants the John McCain Award for exceptional leadership in the quest for human justice, as noted in the organization’s tax return for 2023.

The Pentagon did not offer any comments when approached by the Daily Call News Foundation.
