Memphis Football Team’s Allegations of Sabotage
It seems the Memphis football team may have had a traitor in their midst.
A former player who transferred to Purdue is facing accusations of undermining the Tigers by sharing images of the playbook with opposing quarterbacks prior to a game last season.
According to messages uncovered by Tiger Sports Report, Ra-El, who left the program in October, allegedly sent a photo of the Memphis playbook to UTSA quarterback Owen McCown, along with other details, right before their matchup on November 2, 2024.
In a concerning exchange, Ra-El reportedly wrote, “I’m off here” and “That’s all the signal,” when sending out the playbook.
He also provided McCown with additional insights about the Tigers, including information on injured safety Kourtlan Marsh.
The Roadrunners went on to defeat Memphis 44-36.
A member of the 2024 Tigers team expressed, “We’re on the field. Their offense has all ‘checks’ checks of our defense,” indicating that the game plan may have been compromised.
Ra-El, who had played three seasons with Old Dominion, transferred out of Memphis on October 9, announcing that he wouldn’t be leading the team into that game.
The report from Tiger Sports suggests that Ra-El’s dismissal from Memphis during the season might have motivated his alleged sabotage.
Purdue Athletics, discussing the situation, stated that they believe there has been a misunderstanding and expressed no concerns moving forward.
American Speaker Tim Pernetti weighed in, downplaying the accusations and mentioning he had been in contact with both the UTSA and Memphis coaching staffs about the issue.
“They’re going to handle that. I think a lot of it has been sensationalized and there’s not much to this story,” he commented.
As of now, Ra-El has chosen not to respond to the allegations reported by Tiger Sports.
