Scottie Scheffler addresses the British Open fart controversy

The Scottie Scheffler “Fart-Gate” saga just got even more interesting. Last Thursday, during the British Open on the 17th hole, there was a mysterious noise caught on the broadcast. Initially, many assumed it was from the crowd, but this week, Scheffler completely turned that idea upside down.

On the “Pardon My Take” podcast by Barstool Sports, Scheffler took responsibility for the incident. “Yeah, that was me,” he confessed. “You’re out there for about six hours, eating different food, and, well… things happen.” It sounded like he was almost amused by the whole situation.

He added, “You never really know what the boom mics might pick up. Honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before. I didn’t think much of it until Xander Schauffele showed me the video later. I realized, ‘Oh, that’s what it was.’

Now that the truth is out, it seems the gas might have contributed to his solid performance—Schaeffler managed a 3-under par that day, ultimately soaring over the weekend to seize the British Open title.

On the final day, his nearest competitors fell short, unable to come within four strokes of him. Schaeffler, already ranked as the world’s number one golfer and a favorite for the Claret Jug, captured the win. “It feels pretty special,” he remarked after his victory. “It was a tough week, I worked hard all weekend. Today was no different, but I played really well. I’m lucky to be holding the trophy now.”

This triumph marks Schaeffler’s third major title in golf, adding to his impressive achievements.
