Jazz Chisholm criticizes 'unreasonable' suspension for Little Leaguer's bat flip

The world of sports has been buzzing about the situation involving Marcorocco, a Little Leaguer from New Jersey.

On July 16, Rocco, a 12-year-old from Haddonfield Little League, hit a two-run homer and celebrated by flipping his bat in excitement. However, the game’s referee deemed the celebration excessive and ejected him, leading to a suspension for the next game in the state tournament.

Fortunately for Rocco, his family took legal measures, resulting in him being allowed to play in the next match on Thursday, where Haddonfield lost 10-0 to Elmora Little League, but then they bounced back to beat Ridgewood 11-3 the following day.

The whole bat-flipping incident sparked conversations among MLB players. Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was outspoken about the suspension, calling it “silly.”

“It seems ridiculous,” Chisholm said to reporters. “You’re enjoying the game with kids, and you suddenly get interrupted? That’s crazy.”

Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, echoed similar sentiments.

“If it’s a game-changing homer, that’s fine. Even as the pitcher, it doesn’t bother me. It’s just a natural reaction, and honestly, it’s good for the game,” Scherzer commented.

The Little League organization expressed disappointment at the judge’s decision that allowed Rocco to play, stating they felt the focus had shifted away from the community and volunteers who aim to create a positive experience for everyone involved.

Rocco’s father, Joe, described the family’s feelings about the entire incident as upsetting.

“It’s just distressing,” Joe said. “My son didn’t even realize he was breaking any rules. He watches bat flips all the time during the Little League World Series.” He added that Rocco is trying to make sense of why he was removed from the game. “Sometimes, life’s unfair, but I’ll be there for him,” Joe concluded.

Haddonfield’s next game is against Elmora on Saturday at 7 PM.
