The Soundside Music Festival Canceled
The Soundside Music Festival in Connecticut has unexpectedly canceled its much-anticipated event, leaving fans in shock just two months before it was set to take place.
In a statement on the festival’s official website, the organizers cited “circumstances beyond our control,” but did not provide further details on why the event was called off.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim indicated that ticket sales may have played a role in the decision. “This year’s lineup hasn’t attracted as many attendees compared to past years,” he mentioned, suggesting this could have influenced the cancellation.
Interestingly, local officials felt blindsided by the announcement, saying the city was not part of the decision-making process, and the festival’s cancellation seemed to come as an abrupt realization.
The festival was supposed to happen on September 27 and 28 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport and had already announced a diverse lineup of artists, including names like Weezer, Hozier, and Vampire Weekend.
Following the announcement, the festival’s social media accounts vanished, including their Facebook and Instagram pages, which had amassed over 52,000 followers.
Fans had previously expressed concerns about ticket prices, with general admission tickets starting at $170 for a day. Some speculated that high costs might have deterred potential attendees. “If they hadn’t been so greedy, maybe more tickets would have sold,” one Facebook user remarked. Others had mixed feelings about the lineup, with some simply not resonating with the 2023 offerings.
Last year, the festival broke attendance records, attracting 57,000 concertgoers, significantly surpassing the expected 32,000.
Previous years saw headlining performances from well-known artists like John Mayer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The festival had evolved over time, rebranding itself as the Soundside Music Festival in 2022, under the production of Tom Russell and Jordan Wallowitz.
