Huntington Households on Long Island See Significant Income Growth
Since the onset of Covid, households in Huntington, Long Island, have seen a remarkable increase in their incomes, elevating the town’s status on a list that highlights wealth growth. Perhaps it’s a reflection of changing economic dynamics or other factors at play.
From 2020 to 2023, the median household income in Huntington surged by 22.8%, according to an analysis. This data was sourced from the U.S. Census American Community Survey, which identified the top 50 U.S. towns experiencing rapid wealth growth. Huntington ranked 16th on this list.
Back in 2020, the median household income in Huntington stood at $131,989. By 2023, that number climbed to $162,066. Meanwhile, the number of households earning over $200,000 saw a noteworthy rise of 22.6% during the same period—one of the highest rates in the country.
Interestingly, the study by Gobankingrates did not elaborate on what exactly drove this economic boost in Huntington. It is worth noting that Huntington was one of just three towns from New York to make the cut on the top 50 list. West Islip and Plainview, both also on Long Island, were ranked 21st and 33rd respectively.
The median household income in these two areas has also risen sharply, approaching the $200,000 mark. It’s quite striking to witness such a transformation in these communities.
On the flip side, New Jersey’s Summit was identified as the leading town enriched with affluent households, according to Gobankingrates.
In Summit, the median household income saw an extraordinary jump of 39.4% between 2020 and 2023, escalating from $142,845 to a markedly higher figure. Additionally, the proportion of households making more than $200,000 increased by 23.6% during this time.
This study suggests that California hosts the majority of rapidly accumulating wealth areas, with 20 towns listed among the top 50. Despite high taxes and exorbitant property prices, it’s clear that California still represents significant opportunities for upward mobility.
