Cleveland Browns Training Camp Update
In May, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski suggested that fans shouldn’t focus too much on rookie Shedale Sanders, especially since he hadn’t yet taken a snap during the rookie minicamp.
Now that training camp is underway, Sanders is getting ready to showcase his skills alongside his peers, including Colorado alumni like Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, all of whom have been taking snaps with the starters.
Sanders is mostly practicing with the third-string team. During a camp session, he shared his perspective, saying, “I don’t think it’s my place to give my answer; I’ll just focus on my performance.” He seems to understand that many aspiring athletes would love to be in his position, adding, “I’m here now. I have the opportunity.”
Despite the competition, he remains confident in his abilities and self-awareness, stating, “I know who I am and what I can bring to this team, so I can’t let anything make me feel less than I am.” His approach is refreshing in an environment where pressure can be overwhelming.
It’s notable that Sanders was previously projected to be a top-five pick in the draft but fell significantly lower, with the Browns selecting Gabriel in the third round instead. Still, Sanders doesn’t seem fazed by that turn of events. He remarked, “We’ve made the journey from HBCUs to Power 5 schools, and now we’re here. There’s really no challenge left for me.”
The Browns’ first preseason game is scheduled for August 8 against the Carolina Panthers. All four quarterbacks are participating actively, but Deshaun Watson is still recovering from a torn Achilles, which he has dealt with twice now.
