Soto’s Mets Debut Marks New Opportunity

In a recent outing, Gregory Soto viewed his performance against the Mets as a chance to impress potential new employers.

Understanding that the Mets were in search of relief pitching before the trade deadline, the left-handed pitcher felt particularly driven during his matchup more than two weeks ago while competing for the Orioles.

“I wanted to make an impression,” Soto shared, speaking through an interpreter following the Mets’ narrow 2-1 win over the Giants.

Over two appearances, he managed to deliver 1²/₃ innings without allowing a run.

On Friday, the Mets added Soto, striking a deal that involved minor league pitcher Wellington Arasena and Cameron raising for the Orioles.

Soto is set to join the active roster for Sunday’s series finale against the Giants in San Francisco. He noted what attracted him to the Mets as a potential new team.

“The way they play, the culture is appealing, and, well, there’s a strong Latino presence here,” he mentioned. “This is a team that is serious about winning a championship, and I want to be part of that.”

On another note, Tylor Megill threw a bullpen session on Thursday and is expected to repeat the drill on Sunday as he continues to work back from elbow inflammation.

Currently on the 60-day injured list, Megill’s recovery timeline extends beyond August 14th, indicating he won’t be back by then.

As for team performance, the Mets have successfully stolen bases on all 25 attempts this season, making it the longest winning streak in MLB thus far. With a 89.4% success rate, they lead the majors in stolen bases this year, marking a franchise record.

Additionally, the Mets have now extended their road winning streak to five games, although their overall record at Citifield stands at 24-28. Interestingly, they hold a 3.94 ERA on the road, ranking third in the majors for the season.
