Cowboys Secure Young Talent with Ferguson Extension

The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant move, locking in one of their promising players. Tight end Jake Ferguson has reached a four-year extension worth $52 million, as confirmed by the team on Sunday. NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport was the first to report on this deal.

This agreement positions Ferguson as the highest-paid tight end in the franchise’s history, featuring a $30 million guaranteed bonus along with a signing bonus of $12 million. However, despite this development, the Cowboys still face ongoing contract discussions with star defender Micah Parsons.

At just 26 years old, Ferguson was selected as Wisconsin’s fourth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, coming in at No. 129 overall.

Throughout his career, spanning over 47 games with 38 starts, he has tallied 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns.

His standout performance came during the 2023 Pro Bowl season, where he recorded 71 catches totaling 761 yards, along with five touchdowns. Interestingly, last year’s stats dipped; he managed just 494 yards with 14 starts and didn’t find the end zone.

Still, the Cowboys believe in Ferguson’s potential as he steps into a longer-term role as their starting tight end during what many consider his prime years.

Ferguson’s new contract also places him among the top seven highest-paid tight ends in the NFL, ensuring he remains with the Cowboys at least until 2028.

On another note, Micah Parsons is still waiting for his own extension. He has not yet reported to training camp, likely hoping to hammer out a lucrative deal before the season kicks off.

As of now, there haven’t been any formal commitments from the Cowboys, and fans are certainly vocal about their desire for owner Jerry Jones to secure Parsons soon.

With Parsons entering the final year of his rookie contract and earning about $24 million this season, he is set to hit free agency following the 2025 season.

Last year, the Cowboys finished with a disappointing 7-10 record, dealing with injuries that kept them from reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
