MLB Trade Deadline Approaches
With the MLB trading deadline just days away, teams are getting ready, and players are left to wonder what might happen as the season progresses into 2025 and beyond.
Players often claim to tune out external chatter, but with social media and sports shows buzzing with updates, it’s a tall order. Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, however, has a clear message: don’t believe all the noise.
He even highlighted one particular outlet during a press conference. “Talking about ESPN in the Green Room, how people made it — you know, you can tell us trade,” Cora shared with reporters. “And you can say I don’t believe everything that they are told, do you know?”
As the trade deadline gets closer, Cora acknowledges that fans are eager to see their teams improve. It’s a crucial time for franchises aiming to strengthen their rosters by trading for star players or valuable assets.
“You’re on any social platform. If you’re looking for baseball, your feed will be filled with baseball stories, right?” he said. “And there are a lot of people who are very responsible for their transactions, their rumours, their contacts, others aren’t.”
A source stated that ESPN backs this report, though it’s unclear whether Cora, who departed the network almost ten years ago to join the Houston Astros coaching staff, specifically referenced it.
Cora mentioned, “I got the story, man. I don’t want to bury people,” when pressed about his comments regarding ESPN.
Having been in the MLB for 14 seasons, Cora fully grasps the pressure players face as the trade deadline looms. The Red Sox, with a passionate fan base, are constantly under scrutiny during this time. Jarren Duran, the All-Star outfielder, has been a hot topic as the deadline approaches.
Currently, Boston sits in a strong playoff position with a 57-50 record in the tough AL East division, holding the second wildcard spot in the American League, just trailing their rivals, the New York Yankees.
