Rachel Zegler recently opened up about her unexpected leave from “Evita” due to an undisclosed illness. The actress, 24, shared her gratitude with the cast and crew through social media after stepping off stage during a performance last Thursday.
She posted a picture from the London Palladium stage on her Instagram story, expressing her fondness for the venue. “I can’t explain the love of this building every night, but especially today,” she wrote to her 2.5 million followers.
In her message, Zegler expressed her deep respect for the company, remarking how they come together to support one another. “They really hold each other’s hands through their numbers, actions, and shows,” she said, emphasizing their solidarity and teamwork.
On Friday, Zegler shared more photos celebrating her return to the stage, following the incident where she left during the performance. Bella Brown stepped in during the second act, delivering the iconic “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” while the audience celebrated her talent with nearly a five-minute standing ovation.
Brown reflected on the significance of swings and covers in the industry, saying, “Today, we really showed how important swing and cover are within the industry. They are the pillars of the show! I’m proud to be in ‘Evita’.”
Lastly, Zegler, who portrays Argentine first lady Eva Perón in this revival directed by Jamie Lloyd, is making her London stage debut. The production began in June and will continue until September.
