A shocking video has emerged, capturing a confrontation between bystanders and an armed man who allegedly stabbed 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, on Saturday.
Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michaelcia reported that Bradford Gill, hailing from Afton, Michigan, entered the store and began attacking shoppers indiscriminately. Thankfully, a group of individuals managed to intervene in the parking lot and hold him until authorities arrived.
Eyewitness Chris O’Brien recorded the tense moments as Gill faced off against at least three men outside. The video reveals two people shouting at him to drop his weapon. As they approached, he seemed to retreat, with one man apparently holding a firearm and expressing his anger. Sheriff Shea confirmed later that one bystander was armed during the incident.
Viewer discretion is advised; the video could be distressing.
Shortly after the initial footage, audio captures a raised voice demanding Gill get on the ground. Witness Stephen Carter recounted that Gill defiantly responded, “I don’t care, I don’t care,” to the crowd’s shouts.
As the video progresses, it shows Gill being subdued and handcuffed by law enforcement outside a police vehicle. Sheriff Shea indicated that Gill was safely taken into custody.
In the background, someone can be heard mentioning, “There are several people who have been stabbed.” The latter part of the video shows emergency responders attending to the scene, tending to injured individuals.
According to Shea, the victims—11 in total—ranged in age from 29 to 84 and included one Walmart employee. Dr. Tom Sharmerhorn from Manson Medical Center reported that one of the patients had been treated and released, while two others were in serious condition, with the remaining in fair condition and expected to survive.
Shea acknowledged the significant role bystanders played, suggesting their prompt actions likely prevented further injuries. “I can’t emphasize enough how commendable the efforts were,” he stated during a press briefing. “When I looked at the timeline of the initial call to when he was in custody, it was about a minute.”
The motive behind the attack is still unclear. Authorities revealed that Gill had previous criminal charges related to assault and drug offenses, and he is anticipated to face charges, including intent to commit terrorism and multiple counts of assault.
