49ers Training Camp Takes Scary Turn
The San Francisco 49ers experienced a concerning moment at training camp on Sunday when a collision led to some players being rushed to the hospital.
Head Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that defensive player Taron Jackson was taken to Stanford Hospital following the incident. Although he was conscious, he was not moving his limbs at the time. This situation understandably raised alarms among onlookers.
During the practice, the reporter on the scene fell hard after witnessing the troubling circumstances—Jackson had been hit and was unresponsive. Medical staff came out to assess the situation and, after a while, Jackson was placed on a backboard and carried off the field.
Jackson, who is vying for a spot on the 49ers roster, signed a one-year contract worth $1.1 million. His injuries may complicate matters for the team’s 53-man roster.
This would mark Jackson’s fourth season in the NFL. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 and played 21 games with them, showcasing a noteworthy career at Coastal Carolina. However, his recent injuries lead to uncertainty about his future on the field.
His rookie season saw him put up decent numbers, but by 2022, his appearances dipped significantly. After being placed on the Eagles’ practice squad in 2023, he then joined the Carolina Panthers for the 2024 season, where he played in a few games but without a major impact.
At 27, Jackson had hoped that joining the 49ers would allow him to finally secure a more substantial role. One can only hope that he recovers and gets the chance he’s looking for.
