Olivia “Livivy” Dan is on a mission to find her ideal apartment in New York City.
The retired NCAA gymnast recently faced a setback when she was denied by the cooperative committee in her attempt to purchase the former Upper West Side apartment of Babe Ruth. She was seen checking out the property in a TikTok video over the weekend.
In the video, the 22-year-old Dan shared her experiences searching for a new place, captioning it, “What New York real estate agents heard while searching for an apartment when they returned to New York,” and included a clip of herself skipping down the sidewalk.
“It’s not Babe Ruth’s apartment, but it’ll do,” she remarked, with a hint of humor.
Dan, originally from New Jersey and currently dating Pirates pitcher Paul Skenneth, didn’t delve much into her apartment search.
Former Playboy model Holly Madison chimed in with a supportive comment, saying, “You deserve Babe Ruth’s apartment!!!!!”
The sports-illustrated swimsuit model stirred some attention when she expressed interest in buying Ruth’s old New York home.
Just days before she was set to receive the keys, the Upper West Side cooperative committee rejected her offer of $1.59 million, which she shared in her TikTok video.
“I got a call. The Cooperative Committee denied me,” Dan explained to her 8 million followers in a video titled “I’m just disappointed.” She further mentioned, “Most people in the building voted to not have me there. That’s fine. At one point, the real estate agents were so sure that Paul and I were ready to go.”
Dan expressed uncertainty about the reasons behind the denial, stating she “has no clue” what led to the committee’s decision.
However, a resident of the West 88th Avenue building suggested that Dan’s significant online presence might have been a factor swaying the board against her.
The seller’s agent mentioned the board’s rejection left everyone involved shocked and uncomfortable, stating, “The managing agent came back a few days later and said the board’s decision was final. That’s it.” The agent added that the seller’s lawyer has processed the return of Dan’s deposit and they are now back on the market.
It’s important to note that the board is not obligated to explain their refusal, as agents pointed out.
