Football Season Approaches

The familiar sounds of football fill the air as summer winds down. The NFL training camps have opened, signaling that the season is just around the corner.

Yet, there’s another sound that underscores the anticipation of the NFL’s return.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is, once again, making headlines.

As discussions around contracts for standout defender Micah Parsons continue, Jones has been vocal, making various comments about Parsons. With training camps underway, he held the usual pre-camp press conference, where Parsons made an appearance, discussing his recovery from an injury last year. This included some playful digs directed at players like Dak Prescott and Trevon Diggs.

Such remarks caught the media’s eye, including that of former defensive lineman J.J. Watt, who questioned why Jones seemed to put distance between himself and one of his top players. Parsons himself didn’t seem thrilled with Watt’s observation on social media.

When I arrived at the training camp in Dallas on Sunday, I noticed something familiar. Fans were chanting “Pay Micah!” during practice, as mentioned in a report.

While Jones might have heard this, he had his own take on it.

“I heard it briefly, though I didn’t equate it to how it was back then. Last year’s situation was different,” Jones stated. “Anyone who isn’t directly involved can just shout things. But last year, the crowd’s response was quite significant.”

Jones seems unable to refrain from commenting, especially when it comes to negotiating with Parsons. It feels as though he’s eager to have the final word, more than typical for Cowboys ownership.

While the Cowboys eventually struck a deal with Lamb, it’s uncertain how long this standoff with Parsons will continue. This uncertainty seems to extend to both Jones and Stephen Jones, the team’s executive vice president.

“There really isn’t much to say on that,” Elder Jones mentioned. “No comments.”

“Nothing has changed,” Stephen Jones commented. “We want to pay Micah, but he has to want that too.”

The ownership of the Cowboys is undoubtedly under pressure.

It’s an annual reminder that football is on the way back.
