Former NBA player Marcus Morris was taken into custody on fraud charges on Sunday in Florida, according to arrest records available online.
His arrest occurred at an airport, where it was reported he was involved in a case involving a check that lacked sufficient funds. Records from Broward County indicated that this matter was connected to an issue in another state, leading to Morris being jailed without bail.
His twin brother, Markieff Morris, who also played in the NBA, shared his thoughts on social media. He expressed disbelief over the situation, saying, “The language is crazy. For that amount, they’ll be embarrassed by you at the airport with your family. They really thought Bro had done some scams.” He hinted that more details would emerge soon, adding, “When I hear the truth about this, all I can say is the lesson. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow.”
This isn’t the first time Marcus has faced legal challenges. He previously entered a diversion program in 2012 after a battery charge in Kansas. Along with his brother, he was also charged with aggravated assault in a 2015 incident, but they were cleared of wrongdoing.
Marcus began his NBA journey with the Houston Rockets after being selected as a first-round draft pick in 2011. He spent a year there before moving to the Phoenix Suns during the 2012-13 season. Over the years, he played for several teams, including the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and eventually, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, he exited the NBA.
