Kamala Harris’s Political Future Uncertain
Political analyst Mark Halperin suggested that former Vice President Kamala Harris might withdraw from the political scene during a recent morning meeting. He noted that she is expected to make a decision about entering the California governor’s race by the end of summer. In March, he referenced two unnamed sources, predicting that Harris would face challenges raising funds for another presidential bid and might ultimately exit politics altogether.
Halperin expressed doubt about her commitment to the governor’s race, saying, “I think she might come in, but I don’t think she’ll stay when she comes in. I don’t think she’ll be a candidate for governor of California. It seems to me she’ll find it quite tough to run for president again, so there’s a possibility she could step away from politics.” Co-host Dan Trenne added that he believes Harris will be “hesitant” in deciding about the gubernatorial run.
Furthermore, Halperin mentioned that he doesn’t think Harris desires the role of California’s governor, asserting, “That’s not a great job for her.” Former “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd also cautioned her against pursuing the governorship, suggesting that it could be a daunting challenge. He recommended that Harris focus on activities like rebuilding Los Angeles or joining the LA Olympic Committee, indicating that she could return to politics after a break.
Multiple sources close to Harris indicated that she has been gathering opinions on the possibility of running for governor, with some suggesting that she is more likely to pursue that role in 2026 than aim for the presidency again in 2028. In the past, Harris struggled in key battleground states during her presidential run, receiving only a modest number of votes in the Democratic primary, which left her with no delegates.
