Roger Goodell honors NYPD officer Didarul Islam following fatal shooting in Midtown

NFL Commissioner Remarks on NYPD Officer’s Sacrifice

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed admiration for NYPD officer Didalle Islam, who tragically lost his life during a shooting incident at the league’s headquarters in Manhattan on Monday night.

A gunman identified as Shane Tamra, armed with an AR-15 rifle, entered a midtown building, resulting in the deaths of four individuals. It was a chaotic scene, which drove NFL employee Craig Clementy to take his own life amid the crisis.

“The gunman unleashed unfathomable violence inside the 345 Park Avenue building. One of our employees was severely injured during the attack,” Goodell stated, referring to the incident in a message to staff.

“He is currently in stable condition in the hospital. The NFL team is supporting his family during this difficult time,” he added.

According to a committee member, Islam was a father of two, with a third child on the way, who dedicated his life to protecting others.

Goodell continued, “We owe a debt of gratitude to the law enforcement officials who responded swiftly and decisively to this threat, especially to the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.” It’s a sobering reminder of the risks these individuals face daily.
