Gunman in New York City allegedly had issues with the NFL and football

New York City Skyscraper Shooting

The gunman responsible for the attack on a high-rise building in New York City on Monday evening was reportedly aiming for the NFL headquarters but mistakenly entered the wrong elevator bank, according to Mayor Eric Adams.

During an interview on Fox 5 NY’s “Good Day New York,” Adams shared that the suspect, identified as Shane Tamura, believed he had accessed the correct floor but ended up arriving at the wrong one, where Rudin’s management team operates.

Adams noted that it’s unfortunate that active shooter drills have become commonplace these days. He commended Rudin Management for their efforts in conducting these drills effectively.

Additionally, he revealed that the shooter had a history of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and expressed dissatisfaction with the NFL. “It appeared he had some grievances against the league,” the mayor stated, explaining how Tamura ended up in the wrong elevator bank.

Authorities are currently looking into a “suicide memo” that the gunman reportedly left behind. The New York Post was the first outlet to report on the discovery of this note near Tamura’s body on the 33rd floor. Fox News Digital has reached out to the NYPD and the NFL for comments regarding the incident.

Tamura was previously a high school football player at Granada Hills Charter located near Los Angeles. The NFL headquarters occupies the same building where the shooting occurred, with league officials situated on the fifth floor.

NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tish mentioned that Tamura had a past dealing with mental health challenges. She noted he had been seen recently in Columbia, New Jersey, shortly before the shooting, which began around 4:24 PM. Tragically, one NFL employee sustained serious injuries during this violent episode.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has communicated with staff about the situation, emphasizing the traumatic nature of the event. He confirmed that all employees are believed to be safe, while expressing support for the affected families. Goodell has instructed everyone to remain attentive to emergency updates, as the situation is still developing.
