Shooting in NYC: NFLPA issues statement regarding the tragic incident at NFL HQ

NFLPA Responds to New York City Shooting

The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) released a statement regarding a tragic shooting that occurred in New York City early Tuesday morning.

They expressed, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that took place in New York City yesterday. 345 Park Avenue is part of our football family, and the NFLPA will extend our sincere condolences and support to the families of those who worked in this building and those who lost their lives.” The association also shared appreciation for law enforcement and paramedics for their prompt response to those affected.

During a news briefing, Mayor Eric Adams remarked that the shooter, identified as Shane Tamra, appeared to be targeting the NFL. He noted that the shooter nearly reached NFL Headquarters but took the wrong elevator. Adams indicated that Tamra had a history of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and expressed discontent with the NFL in his “suicide notes.” Tamra was a former high school football player from California.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell shared in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital that one NFL employee was “seriously injured” in the incident. The employee, who works in the finance department, reportedly called colleagues during the chaos, urging them to stay safe while also making calls for ambulances as he was transported to the hospital.

Tragically, an NYPD officer was among those killed, and the shooter died on the 33rd floor after inflicting self-harm following the attack.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tish mentioned that Tamra had a history of mental health issues. Recently, he was observed in different locations across the country, including Columbia, New Jersey, shortly before the incident unfolded.
