Why Shedeur Sanders advised Deion to avoid the Browns camp

Browns Rookie Quarterback Chedur Sanders Avoids Distractions

Rookie quarterback Chedur Sanders is focused on honing his skills during preseason training camp, which is why he has asked his family not to visit, including his father, the renowned Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Deion made it clear during an interview that he respected his son’s wishes. He mentioned that Chedur felt it was best for his development not to have family around. “He said, ‘Dad, I have three or four people in practice. I don’t want you to see me like this. I’m not where I need to be yet,’” Deion recalled.

Chedur, who has not secured a spot as the first team representative, is currently positioned behind veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, along with rookie Dillon Gabriel. Cleveland selected him in the third round of the NFL Draft, but he unexpectedly fell to the fifth round as the 144th pick after being projected as a top-five selection.

It’s understandable that he might feel a bit disappointed. Many might even think he has a chip on his shoulder, but Chedur seems to be channeling that energy into his focus on football. Deion noted, “He treats it like a pro. He said, ‘I’ve done my job, and I’m going to keep working. When the preseason comes, just wait and see what I can do.’”

His approach appears to stem from lessons learned prior to the draft. Chedur’s attitude seems to be a pivotal factor in navigating his new reality. If he can maintain his position on the depth chart by the end of training camp, he will likely get opportunities during preseason games.

Perhaps someday soon, Deion will have a chance to watch him play.
