A married special education teacher from Missouri has confessed to sending nude photos to a 16-year-old student, but she managed to avoid prison time after facing more serious allegations like statutory rape and child sex trafficking.
According to investigators in Maries County, 26-year-old Ricky Lynn Loughlin allegedly pressured teenagers into sexual acts, using explicit images and sex toys in attempts to solicit nude photos. Reportedly, she was appealing to minors in this way.
Loughlin pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, a charge that signifies a significant risk to the minor involved.
At the time of these offenses, she was teaching at St. James High School, located about 75 miles southwest of St. Louis, with the incidents occurring between September 8 and October 19, 2023.
On October 23, last year, prosecutors brought forth a felony charge against her for possession of child pornography, alongside other serious allegations.
Recently, Loughlin was sentenced to five years of probation.
Reports indicate that the student told police things escalated quickly following interactions over Snapchat, claiming they shared kisses.
When Loughlin allegedly invited him to engage sexually, he reportedly made an excuse to back out because he felt uneasy, as detailed in a statement from the Maries County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation was initiated after detectives from Phelps County alerted authorities about inappropriate relationships occurring at the school. The case was later moved to Grandi County in May.
