Members of the Ohio Congressional Delegation are criticizing Democratic policies following a violent incident in downtown Cincinnati that has gained significant attention online.
One Republican member remarked, “Can you name one major city in America where it’s safe for kids to walk alone? You can’t. That’s concerning for all of us.” This sentiment echoes a growing fear that stringent left-leaning policies, such as the support for sanctuary cities and cuts to police funding, have resulted in increased crime and unrest.
Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio has publicly called for Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval to step down in light of these events. He described the assault as a “vicious attack” and suggested that the mayor isn’t doing enough to support law enforcement. He added, “If it were up to me, I’d resign as mayor. We need leaders who care about this community and are willing to fund the police.”
Reports suggest that over the weekend, a video went viral, depicting a brutal attack on a man, as well as on a woman who attempted to assist him. Distressingly, a survey of witnesses revealed that out of a hundred people who recorded the violence, only one had the sense to call for help.
Pureval has condemned the “malicious battle” and assured the public that arrests are forthcoming. Despite the upheaval, both Moreno and another politician, Michael Rulli, expressed frustration over the way Democratic policies seem to fuel disorder in the city.
Vice President JD Vance, previously a senator, mentioned that Moreno had shown him footage of the violence during a recent meeting. He commented on the need for accountability, stating, “I hope every person involved in this violence is prosecuted fully.” Looking back on the severity of the attack, he added, “A man who assaults a woman should face serious consequences.”
Details about what triggered the fight and the identity of the assailants remain unclear.
