NASCAR racer Stewart Friesen admitted to hospital after dirt track accident

A NASCAR driver was involved in a serious accident while racing in Quebec, Canada on Monday night. Stewart Friesen, competing in the Super Dirtcar Series at Autodrome Drummond, lost control of his car, which hit a barrier and went airborne.

Friesen’s wife, Jessica Friesen, shared details about the incident. Following the crash, he suffered multiple injuries that require surgery, prompting his transfer to a larger hospital on Tuesday morning for treatment.

A CT scan indicated that while he had complications related to his head, neck, and spine, he was still in considerable pain.

The crash occurred during the 17th lap of the race, when Friesen’s car veered over the berm and collided with the outer wall, flipping and catching fire as it flipped back down.

After the accident, Friesen was able to communicate with emergency medical technicians at the scene before being removed from his car.

According to the Racing Series on social media, he was initially taken to a local hospital for further assessment.

In a statement, Jessica expressed gratitude to the crew for their quick actions, noting the importance of the safety training that both racers and first responders undergo, akin to NASCAR and IndyCar protocols.

Friesen drives for Halmar-Friesen Racing in the NASCAR Truck Series and currently ranks seventh in playoff standings, thanks to a recent triumph at Michigan International Speedway back in June. Interestingly, he had just celebrated a victory at Weedsport Speedway in upstate New York over the weekend.
