MLB Trade Update: Orioles Send Dominguez to Blue Jays
On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles made a notable trade before the MLB deadline, sending right-handed reliever Celantny Dominguez to the Toronto Blue Jays in return for right-handed prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. Interestingly, Dominguez didn’t need to navigate any travel plans; he was seen casually walking through the tunnel during the team’s doubleheader.
During Game 1, he was ready to pitch for the Blue Jays if called upon, while in Game 2, he donned his former team’s uniform, prepared to face his old teammates if needed. To accommodate Dominguez, the Blue Jays designated Chad Green for assignment after a tough outing where he gave up four runs in a significant loss.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t Dominguez’s first trade; he had been moved from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Orioles last season. Over his tenure in Baltimore, he posted a 3.97 ERA across more than 26 games. This season, with a 3.24 ERA from 43 appearances, he showcases his potential but struggles with command. Notably, he has recorded 54 strikeouts alongside 24 walks and 32 hits, resulting in a WHIP of 1.344.
Watts-Brown, the prospect acquired by the Orioles, has spent the 2023 season with Double A New Hampshire and High A Vancouver, indicating that both teams are making strategic moves for their future.
