Inquest into Paloma Shemirani’s Untimely Death
A young woman who passed away after opting out of chemotherapy reportedly underwent an unconventional “treatment” regimen, including five coffee enemas daily, as her brother revealed during an inquest.
Paloma Shemirani, who had non-Hodgkin lymphoma, suffered a heart attack linked to her tumor at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on July 24 last year. She was only 23.
Her mother, Kate Shemirani, a nurse whose reputation has been tarnished by her promotion of Covid-19 misinformation online, played a significant role in her daughter’s unorthodox treatment plan.
Paloma’s siblings, Gabriel and Sebastian, believe their mother’s anti-medical views contributed to Paloma’s premature death.
During the recent hearing in Maidstone, Kent, Gabriel questioned Ali Ajaz, a psychiatrist brought in by their mother. Gabriel contended that the psychiatrist’s sessions were heavily influenced by their mother’s control, a point Dr. Ajaz dismissed as merely speculative.
When Gabriel asked if the frequent use of coffee enemas would raise concern, Dr. Ajaz admitted he was unfamiliar with the practice. Meanwhile, he noted that Paloma’s treatment mostly consisted of a strict diet and numerous green juices.
Gabriel further speculated whether their mother created an environment of fear around their treatment options, questioning if Paloma felt only their mother could provide the solutions for her health.
Dr. Ajaz stated he couldn’t comment on that, allowing for the possibility of speculation.
The doctor previously assessed Paloma in a High Court case and expressed no concerns about her being coerced regarding her medical choices. However, an email exchange surfaced where Paloma expressed distress about feeling treated against her will in the hospital, which Dr. Ajaz characterized as shocking revelations.
Interestingly, Dr. Ajaz had been featured on Kate Shemirani’s podcast multiple times, suggesting a complex relationship in their professional interactions.
Kate Shemirani had her nursing license revoked in 2021 due to spreading dangerous misinformation during the pandemic. During her virtual attendance at the inquest, she received warnings about her behavior, including attempts to interject during the proceedings. Coroner Catherine Wood cautioned her that her actions were nearing contempt of court.
The inquest is still ongoing as the family seeks answers and aims to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
