Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson Ends Holdout Amid Contract Dispute
The NFL preseason has seen one of its major holdouts resolve, as Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson agreed to end his contract dispute, according to reports. However, the catch is that he still hasn’t received the contract extension he sought earlier this offseason.
Hendrickson, having been one of the last players in the league to join training camp, expressed that while he’s eager to play, the lack of a deal weighing on his mind was significant. In fact, it’s noted that other players, such as Washington Commanders’ Terry McLaurin, managed to resolve their situations more swiftly.
Recently, Hendrickson shared that he’s spent much of the past month in Cincinnati, finding the situation frustrating. “I can’t just sit at home, listening to practice while feeling like I’m missing out,” he mentioned, indicating the emotional toll. He emphasized that while he would consider signing for less money, the guarantees in the contract were crucial for him.
Bengals President Mike Brown reassured fans that the team is intent on securing a deal for Hendrickson, saying, “We’re working to get Trey to re-sign as we speak.” It’s interesting, though, as this offseason hasn’t painted the Bengals positively, especially with another rookie, Shemar Stewart, wrestling through contract issues of his own.
As the situation stands, it’s uncertain when or how a mutual agreement will be reached. Nonetheless, Hendrickson, who has been a Pro Bowl player since 2021 and tallied 17.5 sacks last season, is intent on getting back with his teammates to prepare for the upcoming challenges of the 2025 season.
Given that fellow AFC North rivals like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns have made major investments in their pass rushers this offseason, Hendrickson is likely looking to ensure he’s compensated fairly moving forward.
