John Michael Montgomery Announces Final Concert
John Michael Montgomery is preparing to step off the stage for the last time. The 60-year-old country music icon shared on Tuesday that his final performance will take place in December, signaling the end of his touring career.
“It’s time to bring it home for the final show,” he expressed on social media. He believes there’s no better venue for this moment than his hometown, Rap Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Scheduled for December 12th, tickets will go on sale this coming Friday.
Montgomery mentioned that “some very special guests” will join him for the performance. Notable family members like his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who is part of the duo Montgomery Gentry, alongside his son Walker Montgomery and son-in-law Travis Denning, will also be taking the stage.
His retirement announcement came through a Facebook post shared last New Year’s Day, where he reflected on his journey: “I hope everyone enjoyed it in 2024,” he wrote, “I decided to round out my touring career this year and 2025, so it’s the beginning of a farewell tour for me.” It’s been quite a ride for Montgomery, who started in 1992 with his hit “Life’s A Dance.” Back then, things were different—CDs were just emerging and the internet was still gaining traction.
The singer emphasized how fortunate he’s been to do what he loves for over 30 years, expressing gratitude for his fans who’ve supported him throughout his career. Known for beloved tracks like “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)” and “Be My Baby Tonight,” Montgomery saw great success early on. His first album went triple platinum, and the following effort, “Kickin’ It Up,” achieved quadruple platinum status.
Montgomery has seen seven of his singles hit number one on the country charts and has received numerous accolades, including four Country Music Awards and three Grammy nominations.
Reflecting on his father’s retirement, Walker Montgomery offered insights last August, noting that it was “about time” after such a long and demanding career. He laughed that his father bought a camper van, hinting perhaps at a simpler life ahead. “He wants to go to Florida, sit in his camper and do nothing,” Walker said, adding that his dad doesn’t even aim to park it on the beach but just inside it.
Recently, Montgomery revealed another life change: he has become a grandfather. On social media, he shared his joy, declaring, “I’m a grandpa! Hello Charlotte!” along with cherished photos of his granddaughter and family.
As December approaches, many fans are sure to look back on Montgomery’s extensive contributions to country music while gearing up for his farewell performance.
