Recent Rumors in Formula 1
In the past few weeks, two main rumors have been swirling around the Formula 1 paddock.
Both were addressed on Thursday before the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The first involved Max Verstappen, who was rumored to be making a surprising move away from Red Bull to Mercedes. However, Verstappen quickly dismissed these claims, stating he would indeed be returning to Red Bull next season.
The second rumor pertained to a shift at the top of Ferrari. There’s always a lot of pressure on the team from Maranello, and the Italian media reported increased tension surrounding team principal Frederic Vasseur. Speculation suggested he might leave due to the team’s recent performance issues. Still, Ferrari eased these concerns by announcing a new “multi-year contract” with Vasseur on Thursday.
One of his drivers seemed quite pleased about this news.
“I’m really, really happy. This isn’t exactly a surprise, but I’m really happy,” Leclerc expressed during a press conference at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Later on, Leclerc addressed the swirling rumors about Vasseur.
“There have been numerous rumors lately, as always, regarding teams. It’s good to have official news in the end, and I’m really happy,” he shared.
Leclerc then emphasized the passion within the team and how Vasseur has the ability to maximize everyone’s potential in what is often a demanding environment.
“Without drawing comparisons between different eras, Fred has a remarkable vision. What’s unique about Ferrari is the emotions tied to it, which can be intense. Fred truly knows how to keep his emotions in check and maintain a clear vision despite the surrounding noise.”
“That’s crucial. Beyond that, he possesses more qualities, one being his knack for drawing the best out of everyone in the factory. When you combine these traits, it really makes a difference.”
Leclerc continued to express admiration for Vasseur, addressing the atmosphere in the team, especially with the heightened attention around Lewis Hamilton.
“No doubt. The hype earlier this year made everything feel more intense,” Leclerc noted. “At the start of the season, expectations were high, and when we didn’t deliver, the rumors ramped up. Unfortunately, these things are outside our control. It’s just part of being Ferrari.”
Once again, Leclerc praised Vasseur’s vision, shifting to what might be an underrated characteristic of the team principal: his sense of humor.
“He has definitely altered the way we approach various challenges. Fred’s biggest impact is his vision overall. The emotional intensity at Ferrari is beautiful, but it can also hurt us during tougher periods. Fred has shown remarkable calmness in those moments, which has helped the team stay grounded.”
What about that sense of humor?
“He’s certainly very interesting,” Leclerc continued. “And I know it resonates with the team. There are some intriguing personalities here, which makes the workplace enjoyable. Team dinners become a good time, almost like a family gathering.”
“I grew up within Ferrari, and I’m still here. Fred fits in well with the team. He leads with an enjoyable approach.”
“Overall, I’m genuinely pleased with Fred’s ongoing role within the team.”
