Aaron Rodgers’ New Bond with Mike Tomlin

Aaron Rodgers’ budding connection with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin started even before he officially joined the team as their new quarterback.

During a recent appearance on the “Pat McCuffy Show,” Tomlin shared that he really enjoyed his initial conversations with Rodgers this offseason. He acknowledged that it felt like a “bromance” as they discussed their ideas about football and life.

“I was excited to get to know him on a personal level,” Tomlin said from Steelers training camp. “We had some funny discussions about what he wants and where he’s headed.” I think it’s those conversations that often spark a special friendship, you know?

Rodgers, who is 41, had a rough two seasons with the Jets, primarily due to an Achilles injury that sidelined him for much of the 2023 season.

Interestingly, when the Steelers invited Rodgers to their facilities back in March, he wasn’t signed to the team yet. About a month later, he talked about some personal challenges he was facing, emphasizing that those were his priority.

Finally, in June, Rodgers signed a one-year contract worth $13.65 million with the Steelers, which will likely be his last season.

“Mike T is a man,” Rodgers expressed on Wednesday. “From the very first phone call we had, I hadn’t yet spoken to my coach. I only talked to friends at that time. But I really respect him.”

Rodgers seems genuinely impressed by Tomlin’s leadership style, saying, “I’m obsessed with the way he leads, the way he communicates in meetings, and how he practices.” It’s fascinating how a leader can make such a strong impression, isn’t it?

This year has ushered in many changes for Rodgers, both personally and professionally. At Steelers Minicamp in June, he revealed he got married a few months prior, which caught plenty of attention thanks to the ring on his left hand.

“When you find the right thing, everything can change really quickly,” he said, referring to his wife.

The Steelers will be kicking off the 2025 season against Rodgers’ old team, the Jets, at MetLife Stadium on September 7th. It’s definitely shaping up to be an interesting matchup!

Rodgers had a previous engagement to actress Shailene Woodley but has now moved on, confirming his relationship with a woman named Britanni back in December 2024.
