Trump calls for inquiry into Nancy Pelosi's alleged insider trading through the PELOSI Act

Trump Calls for Investigation into Pelosi’s Stock Trading

In a recent press conference, President Donald Trump demanded an investigation into Nancy Pelosi’s stock trading practices. This request surfaced after a question regarding the legislation awaiting action in the White House.

“Nancy Pelosi has made herself rich by having inside information. She made her fortune with her husband, which I think is quite dishonorable,” Trump asserted.

This statement responded to a bill proposed by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) aimed at preventing elected officials, including members of Congress, from owning or trading individual stocks. It appears that Trump is particularly focused on Pelosi’s financial dealings.

“She actually has the best return of anybody in Wall Street history. She knows exactly what’s going to happen and what’s going to be announced. She buys stocks, and the stock goes up after the announcement. And she should be investigated,” Trump added.

This isn’t the first time Trump has scrutinized Pelosi (D-Calif) for her stock trading. During his 2024 presidential run, he raised similar concerns about her wealth gained through these practices.

As one of the most affluent members of Congress, with a net worth exceeding $250 million, Pelosi’s trading history has drawn scrutiny since a CBS “60 Minutes” segment back in November 2011. At that time, questions arose after she and others purchased Visa shares while legislation concerning credit card fees was in discussion.

Meanwhile, Trump has shown tentative support for the bill, expressing that he still needs time to study it before forming a definitive opinion.

“I study these things very carefully. So I’ll look at it, but conceptually, I like it,” he stated.

When asked about Trump’s comments on her stock trading, Pelosi initially seemed taken aback, responding, “Why should you read it?” She later expressed her frustration that Trump avoided addressing the actual topic of discussion during his televised program, which was the 60th anniversary of Medicaid. “I’m not into it; my husband is,” she noted, suggesting that there were better things to focus on.

“We call it the Pelosi Act. It’s named after her because she embodies this type of conduct. It should be illegal and prosecutable,” Hawley remarked, expressing his optimism about the proposed legislation and Trump’s potential support.

In response to Pelosi’s claims of not being involved in insider trading, Hawley insisted there were no loopholes, emphasizing her husband’s involvement in financial dealings.

The bill has now passed through Congress with a close 8-7 vote and includes a new provision allowing current lawmakers a 180-day period to adjust their financial activities.
