Mother of Devil's Den victim was killed after rescuing her daughters and returning to assist her husband, according to police.

Tragic Incident at Devil’s Den State Park

A woman from Hero, Arkansas, lost her life during a harrowing incident at Devil’s Den State Park. 41-year-old Kristen Amanda Brink was reportedly attacked while trying to protect her family. The events unfolded on a remote trail as she rushed her daughters to safety while her husband confronted the assailant. Tragically, she was murdered upon returning to assist him, according to police reports released on Thursday.

On Saturday, Brink managed to escape with her children when they were confronted by a man with a knife. After ensuring the safety of her daughters, she bravely returned to the scene to support her husband—though, sadly, she did not return in time to retrieve the anxious girls.

In the aftermath, both she and her husband lost their lives, with their attackers escaping the scene.

Following a four-day manhunt, 28-year-old James Andrew McGann was apprehended at a barber shop in Springdale. Reports indicate he confessed to the crime, with DNA evidence linking him to the murder scene.

The motives behind this brutal attack remain unclear. Investigators revealed that McGann had no previous connections to the victims, suggesting a random act of violence.

Interestingly, McGann is a certified teacher who has worked in several states. He faced allegations of inappropriate conduct during his tenure at a Texas school, but the investigation did not yield conclusive results, leading to his resignation. Alarmingly, he was set to return to Springdale Public Schools next week.

Prosecutors mention McGann’s clean adult criminal record and a lack of known mental health issues. However, they also indicated that he could face the death penalty if convicted of murder.
