Former President Joe Biden’s close associates have informed investigators with the House Oversight Committee that, should he secure a second term in 2024, he might pay up to $8 million. Michael Donilon, a senior adviser during Biden’s four years in office, has known Biden for quite a long time—his first connection to the former senator from Delaware dates back to 1981.
Donilon recently appeared before the committee in a closed session as part of an inquiry examining whether Biden’s team has obscured signs of cognitive decline and whether any executive orders were signed without his complete awareness. It was noted that Donilon was unsure about the purpose of something called Autoopen and didn’t recall having any specific knowledge about it.
Despite being a key strategist for both the 2020 and 2024 campaigns, Donilon stands to gain $8 million if Biden wins the next election. He mentioned he was paid $4 million for his work on the current campaign, as reported by various sources, including Axios and CNN.
In June 2024, Biden withdrew from the race following a poorly received debate against President Donald Trump.
Donilon expressed his thoughts during the investigation, stating that he believed critics had overreacted post-debate and perceived that Biden’s communication skills had improved over his presidency. He admitted that Biden sometimes struggles with his words and recognized the challenges posed by public perceptions of him.
In a statement shared with investigators, Donilon reflected on his 40-year relationship with Biden, underscoring achievements made during the pandemic recovery and legislation, including the Inflation Reduction Act.
He reiterated his commitment, saying, “From the start of his presidency, I believed Biden was the right person for the job, and I still think that today.”
Donilon’s testimony makes him the eighth individual from Biden’s former administration to be questioned in the ongoing investigation led by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer.
Fox News Digital has reached out to seek comments from Donilon’s attorneys and representatives for Biden.
