Michael Whatley Launches Senate Campaign in North Carolina

Michael Whatley, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, has kicked off his campaign for the vacant Senate seat in North Carolina.

Whatley made the announcement on Thursday, expressing excitement about the opportunity to represent the state in the Senate. In a social media post, he said, “We look forward to announcing the US Senate campaign to represent North Carolina’s great nation!” He seemed genuinely humble and thrilled at the prospect, asking for support and prayers as he begins this journey.

Recently, former President Donald Trump endorsed Whatley, describing him as “one of our country’s most capable executives.” This backing seems to add significant momentum to Whatley’s campaign.

Whatley remarked, “President Trump deserves an ally, and North Carolina deserves a strong conservative voice in the Senate. I’ll be that voice.”

In an interview, Whatley emphasized the significance of the upcoming midterm elections, suggesting that North Carolina could play a pivotal role. He expressed gratitude for Trump’s encouragement to run.

This announcement follows just days after Democrats revealed their significant contender, former Governor Roy Cooper, who aims to fill the Senate seat currently held by Republican Tom Tillis. Cooper has a strong political background, having served in various statewide positions, including attorney general and governor.

During his launch speech, Whatley took aim at Cooper, asserting that while he may not appear as a radical, he aligns with the Democratic agenda. He argued, “It’s about how Republicans will win in North Carolina. We’re listening to voters. They understand the issues they care about and put solutions on the table.” He pointed to the consistent Republican victories in Senate races since 2008 and Trump’s success in the state as evidence of this strategy.
