Democratic Representative Sarah McBride Says the Party Needs to Stop Being Unkind

Voter Sentiments Towards Democrats

In a recent interview, Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride shared that many voters see the Democratic Party unfavorably, with a significant 63% of registered voters indicating they view the party negatively, according to a Wall Street Journal poll conducted in July. This figure marked an increase from 58% in April. McBride expressed to Politico’s Dasha Burns that many believe Democrats do not resonate with them on a personal level.

“I think voters feel that Democrats are people they don’t really like,” McBride noted, highlighting two critical questions that voters consider when deciding whom to support: “First, is this candidate like me? And do they respect me? If the answer to the first isn’t satisfactory, they won’t even think about the second,” she added.

When asked about a specific vote showcasing a struggling Democratic stance amid unpopularity of some of Trump’s policies, McBride emphasized the need for a cohesive party approach built around three core principles: workers need more support, democracy and freedom are essential, and the party must respond to the loud online voices that shape perceptions. “In today’s world, where news is often consumed online, there are arenas where the rhetoric is very loud and reflects not only the party’s coalition but also how politicians are viewed,” she explained.
