Former NBA player's spouse bitten by shark

The pregnant wife of former NBA player Danilo Gallinari shared on Instagram that she was attacked by a shark while in Puerto Rico on Friday. Eleonora Boi posted a photo from her hospital bed, showing her tongue out and recounting the terrifying experience. She’s expecting their third child together.

She called it “the worst day of my life,” stating, “I never thought I’d get attacked by sharks, especially so close to shore on a crowded beach. Thankfully, my baby and I are okay.” Boi mentioned that she was rushed for medical help, noting the surgery on her injured leg went smoothly, but she now needs to recover emotionally from the trauma.

Adding a touch of humor amid the chaos, she mentioned that her lawyer would be in touch with the shark and expressed gratitude for her husband’s support during this ordeal. Reports indicate she sustained a thigh injury.

Nirda Zimenez, a biologist from the Department of Natural Environment and Environmental Resources, stated that authorities are looking into what type of shark was involved in the incident. Images provided suggest the bite might align with typical shark characteristics, but further analysis is necessary to confirm this, and health professionals have been asked for samples.

Gallinari, who did not comment on the attack, had an extensive NBA career, playing from 2008 to 2024 across eight different teams and averaging 14.9 points and 4.7 rebounds over 777 games.
