How the Commanders perceive Terry McLaurin's surprising trade request

Dan Quinn Addresses Terry McLaurin’s Trade Requests

Coach Dan Quinn recently spoke about Terry McLaurin’s trade demands, which surfaced on Thursday. He noted that McLaurin had communicated his concerns even before the announcement, calling it part of the usual business dealings for the Washington team.

“We appreciate Terry’s contributions and are glad he’s still with us. We hope he’ll be back on the practice field soon,” Quinn remarked. “But I get that there’s a business side to this, and that’s part of the conversation. Coaching him is something I really enjoy.”

McLaurin is currently viewed as a hold-in player, and discussions around a contract extension haven’t made significant progress so far. Quinn mentioned there’s no hurry to address the team’s current situation.

“Players these days are more aware of their contracts than they used to be,” Quinn explained. “They understand the business aspect, and for us, it’s just part of the flow. For McLaurin, making a trade request is, well, not unusual in the NFL. We totally get it.”

He continued, “This team is tight-knit and knows what needs to be done.”

However, it seems the commanders are hesitant to meet McLaurin’s financial expectations, particularly given that he will be turning 31 at the start of a new deal. Reports have surfaced suggesting that both sides remain far apart in their negotiations.

McLaurin has made a notable impact in his recent seasons, finishing last with a career-high of 13 touchdowns and over 1,000 receiving yards for five consecutive years. His performances have been critical in the Commanders’ recent push to the NFC title game, marking the team’s best season since their Super Bowl win back in 1991.

Despite the trade request, McLaurin continues to attend meetings and walkthroughs while he works through ankle injuries that have troubled him since the latter half of last season.

“I’m trying to avoid forming any judgment on this,” Quinn commented. “We understand that players want to secure their future and provide for their families, and we don’t want to complicate things further. So I’m not going to dive deeper into that.”
